JOB SUMMARY
The ABA Rule of Law Initiative in Turkey seeks a short-term Refugee Law Expert for an initiative in Gaziantep, Turkey. The focus of this program will be providing legal assistance to Syrian refugees. The ideal candidate will conduct trainings to Turkish lawyers in Gaziantep, Turkey, with travel around the country.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct lawyer-trainings on special techniques and sensitivities in counseling and interviewing vulnerable clients who have escaped violent conflict, as well as survivors of trauma and torture;
- Provide training to lawyers on how to deliver effective legal awareness trainings, taking into consideration cultural needs and sensitivities of the trainees;
- Prepare effective training materials, using interactive techniques;
- Significant travel required;
- Other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- JD or equivalent and 5 years of relevant legal experience, including a strong background in refugee law and knowledge of applicable international law;
- Strong experience and background in working with survivors of conflict, especially in the region;
- Prior experience preparing training materials and conducting trainings;
- Fluency in English;
- Knowledge of the region and Turkish language skills is a plus; and
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
