NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 4000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

BACKGROUND
Syria is facing the largest humanitarian crisis of the 21st century with hostilities on-going. The UN estimates that the number of people in need of assistance has grown to 10.8 million including 6.4 million internally displaced persons (of which 50% are children). At present, NRC programs provide support and protection to Syrian IDPs in northern Syria in the sectors of Education, Camp Management and Shelter/WASH.

Job description
- GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement the NRC Security Management System at the national level.
- Conduct Security Risk Analysis (SRA) according to NRC minimum operational requirements (MOSS) including recommending contextually relevant adjustments.
- Plan, mitigate and ultimately minimize security risks facing the NRC operation.
- Manage security staff at the country office level
- Support, train, control and enhance development of security staff
- Author and prepare regular and requested deliverable report(s) as required
- Communicate, liaise and cooperate with relevant external security actors
- Train and develop staff in safety and security methodology and leading edge practice
- SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely in conjunction with the PAA, Access Coordinator and Regional Security Team, to best inform program strategy with regards to the Syria response / implementation.
- Facilitate information management and relevant dissemination amongst the Syria response staff
- Provide quantitative and qualitative data to programme and support staff
- Liaise with other research, analysis, and security professionals insofar as is necessary to support programmatic aims.
- Support SA’s contribution to security department’s recommendations on posturing and operations.
- Regular reporting to Regional SA in Amman and provision of qualitative and quantitative inputs and ad-hoc assigned tasks .
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience from working as a senior Security Advisor in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous and verifiable experience working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results and achievements related to the position’s responsibilities
- Deep knowledge regarding own leadership skills/profile and
- Fluency in English, both written
- Valid driver’s license
