ABA ROLI is a non-profit pro­gram that implements legal reform programs in over 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly 700 professional staff work­ing abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office. ABA ROLI's host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organi­zations, including human rights groups.
JOB SUMMARY
The ABA Rule of Law Initiative in Turkey seeks a Turkish Staff Attorney for an initiative in Gaziantep, Turkey. The focus of this program will be providing legal assistance to Syrian displaced persons in Turkey. The ideal candidate will be based in Gaziantep, Turkey, starting September 2014, with some travel around the country. This position is contingent on funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Liaise with program supported organizations and individuals, including Turkish government ministries, Turkish lawyers, international and local NGOs;
Coordinate program logistics;
Provide program monitoring and evaluation support;
Assist with the development of program materials and in preparation of reports;
Conduct research;
Provide interpretation and translation assistance to non-local office staff;
Event planning; and
Other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Law Degree; A strong advocate for the Rule of Law;
Excellent interpersonal skills; Knowledge of legal systems in the Region; Excellent organizational and event planning skills; Excellent research skills; Excellent oral and written English; Able to travel as needed and work some evenings and weekends.
Experience working on assistance programs involving Syrian displaced persons a plus; knowledge of Arabic a plus. Previous work on US government grants on legal reform or rule of law also a plus.
