Malteser International is the relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta for humanitarian aid. With over 100 projects annually in some 25 countries throughout Africa, Asia and the Americas, we provide emergency relief after disasters and support recovery efforts with a focus on sustainable development. For nearly 60 years, Malteser International has been standing by those affected by poverty, disease, conflict and disaster, helping them lead a healthy life with dignity – without distinction of religion, race or political persuasion. Christian values and the humanitarian principles are the foundation of our work.
Malteser International in Turkey works in partnership with the local NGO, International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation, in providing relief aid, health and community services to Syrian refugees accommodated in Kilis. A Temporary Field Hospital in Kilis provides post-operative care for around 50 in-patients transferred from Kilis State Hospital; and Community Center in Kilis provides educational and social services to over 2000 refugees attending different activities. At the cross-border area inside Syria where 50.000 internally displaced persons found temporary shelter at the IDP camps along the Turkish border, Malteser International works in partnership with Free Medical Association to provide medical assistance in four health facilities, three of them in form of primary health care and one as a surgical/delivery unit with small in-patient capacity.
