Danish Refugee Council is a non-governmental and international organization founded in 1956. The headquarter of the organization is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The main purpose of the DRC is to provide humanitarian assistance to the people affected by conflict and civil war also refugees and internally displaced people. Now, DRC is looking for a Protection Assistant to work in HatayTurkey, application deadline is 14 November 2014.

The Protection Assistant will be supporting the Senior Protection Officer in developing, implementing and monitor the protection activities in the DRC areas of operations in Turkey.
Who are we?
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves.
The overall objective for DRC in Turkey is the protection and promotion of durable solutions to displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights with more immediate objectives focusing both on the immediate subsistence needs, protection and self-reliance support as well as a more long term focus on capacity building. In Turkey, DRC works partially through partners, also providing intensive capacity building support, while also conducting direct implementation. DRC is currently launching a one-year, DFID-funded project focused on identifying and providing regularly, monthly assistance to vulnerable families through an e-card system in Hatay. Identification will be done through a consultative process with local authorities and other stakeholders, and an assessment process completed in phases throughout the year.
DutiesUnder the supervision of the DRC Senior Protection Officer, the Protection Assistant will have the following duties and responsibilities:
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and identify cases for assistance according to pre-defined criteria
• Manage individual protection cases, including maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality and consent.
• Update case files on individual developments, following DRC Data management protocols and ensuring beneficiary data is protected.
• Conduct interviews with beneficiaries of concern during distribution;
• Report on special needs cases and advise on type of assistance, following discussions with beneficiaries.
• Refer protection cases to relevant partners; including updating the database on case referrals and feedback.
• Follow DRC Standard Operation Procedures for vulnerability assessment and assistance;
• Participate in the post assistance monitoring;
• Report internally to the Protection Officer on weekly and monthly achievements;
• Attend internal case management and planning meetings.
Accountability
• Ensure that the Protection activities are compliant with DRC accountability principles;
• Any other duties as agreed with the DRC Protection Officer.
About you:
• University degree or advanced training/courses in sociology, social work, international affairs, humanitarian or other related field;
• At least 2 years of relevant professional Protection experience with a humanitarian aid
Organization;
• Fluency in Arabic and excellent skills in English (written and spoken). Turkish is a plus.
• Experience with case management and case management protocols desirable.
• An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region.
Competences;
• Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a commitment to teamwork;
• Flexible, enthusiastic and willingness to learn from others;
• Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines;
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment;
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and Turkish.

DRC will offer contract until 31 January 2015, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. Salary and conditions are in accordance with DRC Turkey’s Terms of Employment for National Staff. You must be available to work in Hatay (Turkey).
